Orla Kiely Hunting

Hello friends of Peacock Feathers,

I am Radius, Elizabeth's curious and playful (read trouble-maker) cat. Elizabeth is going nuts trying to track down pieces from the Orla Kiely for Target line and I think she needs your help. To those of you in the Philly and South Jersey area, have you come across anything from the kitchen collection? Items such as this, this, this or this? And what about this or this?

So far, she has been to South Philadelphia, Deptford and some store near Wenonah, and all she has found are organizer bins and laundry bags. And while this bin behind me is pretty cute, it's just not good enough for her! She knows that the collection isn't supposed to be fully stocked until February 15, but other bloggers around the country have had luck, so she figures there must be some store in this area with a tiered dessert tray or a ceramic pitcher.

So please, give Elizabeth a shout if you've had better luck than her.... As for me, I am off to shred some toilet paper!

Love ya,
Radius

I wish the zebra rug could be mine...

Pretty in Pink

Oh how I love this image of Chanel and Roger Vivier muse Ines de la Fressange in her glamorously pink Paris apartment... via Elle Decoration UK.

Looks like we will be seeing her surrounded by more of this color on the cover of the final issue of Domino, coming out any day now...

Envelope Lining Project

As I sign off for the weekend, I leave you with a little project in case you are feeling crafty or have some Valentines to get in the mail.

Earlier in the week I shared with you my newly mailed business announcements, which included hand-lined envelopes of my doing. I've had a few people request that I show how it was done, so here goes...

In step 1, I made a template by tracing an outline of my envelope onto stiff black card stock using a pencil.
In Step 2, you want to make sure your template is slightly smaller than the actual envelope so it fits inside. I trimmed about 1/8 inch from the sides and approximately 1/2 inch from the top. You can just eye it, as I did, or use a ruler for a more exact guide.

For Step 3, trace an outline of the template onto the back of the paper you have chosen to use. Here I am using inexpensive gift wrap from Ikea. Be careful to trace lightly using a pencil so as not to damage the paper or have the lines show through.

Carefully cut out the template outline, using a sharp pair of scissors or an exacto knife if you prefer.

Next, carefully slip your freshly cut lining into the envelope. Make sure your pattern is lined up evenly and that the paper is centered as well...

Then glue down the part that covers the flap using a white glue stick. There is no need to glue the lower half as the envelope itself holds the lining in smoothly.

Finally, insert your invitation, letter or announcement, and then off it goes to the mailbox! I admit, this is a project that requires a bit of time, but thankfully you only have to make the template once, and it's definitely easy especially once you get into a groove. Good luck with your own projects, and let me know how you fare!

Valentine Goodies

Lots of sweet Valentine gift ideas at Kate Spade, both new and on sale... I particularly love the beaded necklace with vintage floral clasp.  And it comes glamorously packaged in a green and gold box...

My Domino Favorites

Everyone seems to be sharing their "best of" Domino images, so here are a few of mine. These are some of the ones I come back to over and over again...

Charm & Chain Jewelry

I know I go on about jewelry way too much, but this ring by Lavina G is making me crazy! It is so to-die-for, I can barely even stand it. A perfect glitzy bauble, it features a citrine stone and hand-painted enamel in 18k gold. From my new favorite site for jewelry, Charm & Chain. They have a very desirable selection of sparkly and colorful pieces by the likes of Gerard Yosca, Lizzy Fortunato and many more...

Top collage, clockwise from left: Three hearts necklace by Issy Solomon; Bejeweled necklace by Sequin; Multicolored midnight bow necklace by FALLON; Dangle teardrop earrings by Gerard Yosca; Audrey enamel bangles by Rachel Leigh

Bottom collage, clockwise from left: Starfish necklace by Sequin; Swarovski drop earrings by Martine Wester; Silver lace bead layered chain necklace by Nicole Romano; Minerva bracelet by Dori Csengeri; Gold hammered cuff by Gerard Yosca

Orange Door

Someday I want an entrance like this one... so bright and modern!

Sorry I haven't been posting more this week. It's been a busy one. But I have things to come this afternoon, including an envelope-lining tutorial requested by one of my loyal readers, Amanda...

Hooray...

My business announcements are finally done. I've been in the process of assembling and mailing them over the past couple weeks. I decided to keep it simple... chartreuse envelopes lined with a variety of printed papers. I think I like the stripes the best!

My sea of shoes

I spent some time cleaning my closet yesterday. When I saw the shoes all lined up on the floor waiting to go back to their home, I couldn't help but take a few shots. They look like a shoe army!

Speaking of... thanks to Kay over at Apartment #412 I have become a fan of Sea of Shoes, a fantastic fashion blog written by a ridiculously stylish 17-year-old. Her shoe collection is spectacular - very sexy, tough and avant-garde...

Draugsvold Jewelry

One of my favorite jewelry lines, Draugsvold... I used to shop their pieces (assembled from vintage findings) at the New Designer Market in New York.  Now they are sold all over the country. Really beautiful work, particularly that bird necklace...

Bargain Design Favorites

I'm sure most of us are familiar with these home decor favorites that seem to pop up in all sorts of interiors: the monkey with bananas vase, the pierced carthage vase, the elephant side table... Two's Company makes chic, affordable version of all of these. I happen to have their version of the small white simian shown above. Anyway, while perusing Amazon last night, I came across all of these goodies marked down, in some cases almost 70% off retail!

The elephant would be fun painted a bold, glossy color - like maybe yellow. But I think I need to get one of those vases. At $58 (marked down from $170) for the largest, it's a lot of design pow for the money!

Lousy news... Domino closing

What crummy news to come home to. My favorite magazine is no more... March will be the last issue.

After seeing these, I think I need even more color in my house! See more here...

Bedroom Changes, Part 2

Lately I've been making some small additions to the dresser area of my master bedroom. The big owly is from the sale room at Anthropologie and I believe he's meant to be a flower pot as he has a huge opening in the back and a little tray underneath. Isn't he cute?

The Adler peace sign hand is a miniature version of this one, and was found at the Matthew Izzo sale I referenced last week. I think it's super-groovy.

Meanwhile, the clutch purses are a small sampling of a rather large collection I have of the vintage variety (the exception is the beaded ikat one by Moyna). More on this another day...

The other day I found a very cool bamboo-framed mirror at my favorite old furniture resale shop, Uhuru. We had been needing something bigger for the dresser, and this Hollywood Regency-feeling piece was the perfect solution. Not to mention it was already painted white, which meant no need to spray paint.

Finally, I got around to hanging some new prints that were gifted to me at Christmas. The goat photos are by Sharon Montrose, and they make me laugh every day.

I'd Like to Live Here

Christian Lacroix's 17th Century Le Marais apartment (seen above) is currently on the market. Thank goodness, as I have been looking for a second home in Paris for a while now. At least I have been in my dreams...
