Xmas Wish List... Paintings by Viv Strauss

PhotobucketPhotobucket

At the top of my Xmas wish list this year? These chic and charming, delightful and whimsical paintings by Viv Strauss. I've had her Etsy store bookmarked for several months and often find myself daydreaming about an entire hallway filled with her amazing work. I'm crossing my fingers for one or two under my Xmas tree this year. The ultimate though - to have a custom portrait of me and my honey and my four kitties! A girl can dream! Do check out more of Viv's fab paintings here... I have no doubt you'll find something to add to your wish list too.

Aqua abounds in this lovely, lovely home featured in the new holiday issue of Lonny. And I can't express just how much I love the great dane painting over the fireplace... I'm swooning!

Happy Friday!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend... one without too much snow, and perhaps with a few flowers (if only peonies were in season)!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Holiday Wish List - Topshop Accessories

For the first of my holiday wish lists that I'll be sharing with you this month, I thought I would start with a collection of affordably-priced, big-statement accessories - all from one of my favorite stores, Topshop. Any one of these items would make an outfit - seriously, a badass metallic stiletto, or perhaps just a flash of sequin or fur, is enough to make heads turn. Personally, I will be hoping that Santa puts the sequined belt and the heart stockings under my tree this year. What about you guys? Does anything catch your eye?

(Images clockwise from top left: Trophy sequin belt, $60; All over heart tights, $16; Big spot sheer tights, $16; Unique metallic sandal, $190; Speckled abstract brooch, $25; Rainbow necklace, $62.50; Mongolian chain handle bag, $100; Multi sequin beret, $32; Rhinestone owl ring, $75; Peacock ring, $40; Christopher Kane mesh boot, $150; Enamel bow elastic belt, $44; Brooch and corsage belt, $80)

Holidays are here!

Thanksgiving is over and with that, the holidays are officially here! Time to decorate and wrap gifts and make wish lists and travel plans! I put a wreath on my front door last night - just a little something sparkly and festive to get me in the mood. How about you? Did anyone take part in the shopping madness this weekend, or put their tree up perhaps?

Happy Friday + Holidays are on the way!

I can't believe the holidays are almost here. It's crazy how fast this year has gone by! I mean seriously, my first party of the season is in only two weeks! Of course, this makes me start thinking about what I'm going to wear, and what I want to wear are shiny, sparkly jewel tones - like pretty much everything from the Kate Spade winter collection. The green silk organza dress shown above is particularly tempting! And it would be even cuter with some of these accessories...

So are you all thinking about cocktail dresses and holiday parties yet? If so, what are you going to wear? Have fun thinking about it this weekend... I hope it's a great one for you all!

Delightful Robots

I think these one-of-a-kind "fobots" by artist Amy Flynn (available here) are totally amazing! The use of found objects is so creative and inspiring! A perfectly unique - albeit pricey - holiday gift...

Valentine Goodies

Lots of sweet Valentine gift ideas at Kate Spade, both new and on sale... I particularly love the beaded necklace with vintage floral clasp.  And it comes glamorously packaged in a green and gold box...

Hello, 2009!

Greetings and Happy New Year, from myself and my new friend, Galaxy Space Commander!

I really do hope you all had a fun and festive holiday. Personally, it was lovely taking a few days to relax and spend time with my awesome boyfriend. NYE itself featured margaritas at Cantina Los Caballitos with a few close friends, followed by a weekend of football watching and hanging out at the Jersey Shore. While there, Kevin and I did a bit of furniture shopping and came home with a new/old bookshelf for the living room, but sadly no coffee table. The space-age glass juice bottle was discovered at the same antiques store, and is a happy addition to my desk.

As for 2009, I wish you all much happiness and success in your endeavors. And I thank you for reading my little blog! My goal is to make it even better this year and to hopefully add some new, regular features. And I'm involved in another new blog project which is currently in the works - more on that soon!

Finally, a p.s. that Peacock Feathers is now on Facebook....

So long, 2008!

Here's wishing you a shiny, sparkling, colorful, festive and, of course, safe New Year's Eve!

Personally, I wish I was going to a place tonight that allowed me to wear something as utterly ebullient as these dresses from Christian Lacroix's 2009 RTW collection....

And for 2009, one of my (minor) resolutions will be to wear gorgeous evening sandals with an ankle-load of sparkly baubles....

Can't Wait...

...to hang the new Etsy prints that Kevin and I received for Christmas! His family generously gifted me with the goat photographs, and I gave Kevin the supernatural animal prints...

And my super-talented fella also made me these fantastic prints that he created from some of our favorite photos. I think they are so cool and will be perfect hanging in our house.  I'm a lucky girl to have such a creative guy!

Home Sweet Home

I hope you all had a very merry holiday last week!!  I missed posting while I was gone, but it was so lovely to relax and spend time with my family down in Alabama.

Now that I am back, my fella and I are focusing on all things house-related. There is a significant list it seems - new shelving for the bathroom, finding a new coffee table for the living room, and possibly adding a tile backsplash in the kitchen. Yesterday we managed to find a home for our marlin friend in the master bedroom (I love that he is a bit weathered on the tail but still has a shiny and colorful fin!) One item checked off the list...

Happy Holidays!

I'm heading south to Birmingham tomorrow to spend the week with my family. My posting will be limited until December 29, so I want to take this opportunity to wish you a very merry holiday! I hope for all of you that the remainder of the year is filled with friends, family, food and fun...

Holiday Party Success

My fella and I managed to pull off a pretty great holiday cocktail party the other night!  Our 13 guests just barely fit into our tiny first floor living area, but it made for a festive and cozy evening.  We loved being able to have our friends and family over to celebrate the season and hope we can do it again next year!  Here are some photos, before and during....

Leopard-print stool holding takeout containers with Thai noodle salad

Festive chopsticks (10 sets for $1) are my favorite detail...

The flower arrangement is simply one head of hydrangea with a couple berry stems poked in.  And another fantastic Chinatown find: the black Chinoiserie-patterned soup spoons...

Here they are filled with spicy tuna tartare (yes, Kevin and I made all the food!)

Cheese and dip display on the coffee table

A beauty shot of our pears and camembert (my friend Ingrid really needs to think about becoming a food photographer...this looks like something off of Tastespotting!)

The bar setup, pre-party

We moved our dining table out of the room for space purposes and created this little seating area.  Aren't pink poinsettias so pretty?!

The tree...

And finally, the happy (and relieved!) couple

Holiday Decorations + Party Prep

I've spent much of the week decorating for the holidays as well as preparing for the cocktail party that we are hosting on Saturday.  I've also managed to wrap a few gifts...the ones above have paper from The Container Store and mod little snowflake tags from the Martha Stewart line at K-Mart (more on that later!). Ooh, and I'm really into origami cranes right now so I decided to use them in lieu of bows on my packages...

The color theme for the tree this year is aqua and white.  After four years of a fake white tree with hot pink ornaments, I was ready for a change.  Also, when you have a small living space, the tree really needs to coordinate with the other colors in the room. All of the ornaments came from K-Mart!  They have an unbelievably cute selection and everything is so inexpensive. These glossy ceramic birdies and owls were $2.50 each and a box of 8 glass ornaments was $4. They have every color too, from pitch black, to magenta, to aqua and white.

I've started to lay out the buffet and bar for the cocktail party, so I can see if I have room for everything, if I'm missing any serving pieces, etc, etc.  We're using the front entry table for the main food buffet. For decor, I arranged some white branches in a tall vase and hung a collection of small glass ornaments, but it's definitely not looking finished. It needs more variety in size and scale and I think some icicles or sparkly snowflakes would do the trick! I'll be on the hunt for those items tomorrow. Also, note the stack of fab cocktail plates on the left. Here's a better view...

I've been stalking them at Anthropologie for months. They were finally marked down so I snapped up a set. The one you see on top has foo dogs and the other version has blue partridges, all with a scalloped gold border. While we're on the topic of bargains, I also snagged these pretties:

How cute are these linen cocktail napkins with embroidered peacocks?!  It should be known that I am a relentless bargain shopper and Anthropologie is my closest target.  I stalk their sale room obsessively, checking in 3-4 times per week. These napkins were $8 each until yesterday when they were marked down to $1.95. That's more like it!  Sadly, they aren't available on the website, so you'll have to hunt them down like I did. Anyway, they are now hanging out on our bar with my monkey and some random ornaments. Monkey normally holds a little bouquet of fresh flowers in his basket, but for the party he will assist the bartender by holding corkscrews and the like. A final word on Monkey...doesn't he kind of remind you of this monkey seen in Top Design finalist Ondine Karady's apartment?

I found mine at a very cute Philly boutique called Hello World.  They don't have an e-commerce site as of yet, but you might be able to call them and have it mailed.  He was a bargain at $25 and they have an even more tempting version that sits about 2 feet tall.

But back to holiday decorating.  Finally, I put up a simple wreath on our front door. We don't have any kind of roof or overhang to protect the entrance, so I couldn't do anything too fancy or delicate. Still, I like the little owl and how Foxy's face peeks out from the middle!

That's all I have for now. More sharing to come, once everything is in place.  Happy Friday!
