Sprucing Up
Now that spring is almost sprung, I'm thinking about what I can do to spruce up the outside of the house. We live in Center City (downtown) Philly, so there is no yard and the planting possibilities are limited, but I'm convinced there are still ways to add color and flair. Yesterday I finally cleaned out the window boxes and filled them with happy purple pansies. Oh how I love seeing their cheerful faces when I come and go!
I'm also planning some larger projects; first and foremost is painting the front door. It needs to be glossy and bright, but the question is: what color? Right now I'm thinking a lighter shade of peacock blue. Also, I'd like to change out the light. The one we currently have came with the house and is a bit boring, don't you think? I guess my next assignment is to find a cool one that is not too expensive. I'll keep you posted on the results, and if you guys have any suggestions please let me know!
p.s. Yep, that's my pink bike! I ride it all over town. The basket is frequently stuffed with groceries, table lamps, even a foot stool once. Bicycles in the city are the best!

It looks so pretty!! I love having spring flowers around and pansies are so fun.
PS- very jealous of your pink bike, its fabulous!!
Peacock blue would look awesome although I think you should go a little darker so the fox doesn't get lost cause he is awesome! Where did you find him? Hopefully it is a fox and my eyes aren't deceiving me...
my personal favorite door color is that spanish blue, that dark drenched but still bright blue...
Just when I thought you couldn't get any cooler I find out you ride around the city on an awesome pink bike! Seriously, you need to stop with the utter fabulousness. You're making me jealous ;)
Elizabeth!
I love seeing all of the painted doors in Philly! You have such a sweet entrance to you home. If you paint your door--have you also thought about painting the window box to match? Do people do this?
I am in love with GREEN right now. Have you thought about green? I think a bright green could look festive for the holidays and fresh for spring. (And the right green could make the fox look even more fierce.) Look at Sherman Williams (SW) SW6712 Luau Green or SW6711 Parakeet. They have fab exterior grade paint that is also environmentally (low voc) friendly. High gloss, of course.
Hope you are well! Sorry to hear about the break in. You sound so positive--it doesn't seem to have ruffled your feathers! The blog is fantastic.
Best,
Dottie
would you believe me if i said that without reading the post i looked at the picture and thought it was a photo from a magazine you were using to go with your post?
i actually think it looks really great as is! i think a new light fixture and perhaps a new door mat - perhaps one with a chevron print? would make all the difference. i happen to love black doors that look interesting (love your door handle and the fox!) so - i like the black.
..but if you want colour i think the peacock blue would be nice too.
I have been seeing your pink bike on different blogs lately. I want a beach cruiser so badly, yours is so cute!!!
