White Sofas, or, Things I Want That I'll Never Have...

I suspect I will never own a white sofa. Despite my desire to someday have one in my house, my three black cats have conspired to prevent it from happening. I hate that feeling of wanting something and knowing I can never have it (well, at least as long as these three felines - whom I love very much - still walk the earth...). It's one thing not to be able to afford something, but to be denied a sparkling, white seating area just because one's pets choose to shed fur and emit various unpleasant fluids all the time... well, that's not fair.

I guess I will just have to continue living vicariously through images such as the examples shown here. So, is there something you want for your house but know you will never have the opportunity to own? Come on, let's commiserate together!

Beautiful images, there is something so peaceful about a light colored or white accented room. I know what you mean about cats, I often find myself shying away from black outfits these days because my gray and white cat sheds everywhere too! It's a good thing I love him :) I know you feel the same way!

I have two dogs so I know the feeling. I would love a white (or cream) colored couch. They look so clean and crisp but probably wouldn't stay like that for long!

I ADORE white furniture, and it's like i automatically gravitate towards it. My husband is deathly afraid of stains, wrinkles, and the like, so the odds of us ever having light-colored furniture is pretty small.

I did, however, win a small victory when we got our couch from the Pottery Barn outlet - choices were limited and so we ended up getting a pale beige color for our sofa, and I will admit, it tends to attract dirt more readily than I expected. ::sigh:: I do entertain fantasies of all-white beach houses.

Love these pictures. I would LOVE to have a white sofa but having a black dog and a cat makes that impossible!

I hear you! My last cat lived to be almost 19, and she was, as you say, emitting various unpleasant fluids all the time! She ruined a lot of my favorite things (but it was worth it!) Now I have 2 young (white) cats and a new clean white couch! LOVE these pics!

Crisp, clean, fluffy white bedding like you get in a swanky hotel:) Unfortunately, the chocolate lab and dirt loving golden think that MY bed is their bed too now... guess I'll have to stick w/ the dark neutrals for a while. We can still dream... and blog about it though right?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with pet/fabric incompatibilities! My kitties are the best, but they are messy little monkeys...

I can soo identify with this issue. I desperately long for a white sofa, but I have dog that leaves hair everywhere and I don't even trust myself not spilling coffe or whatnot on it... such a shame!

I love these photos. I wish I could have a white sofa, or white bedding to say the least! It's unfathomable having a Labrador retriever who enjoys swimming in our pond, and jumping on my bed! I wouldn't trade her for the world, though! :)

We have 3 cats and a white leather couch from IKEA. It's held up really well, we've never had any problems with dirt/stains. Just a few scratches... :)

I gave in and have my white sofa, granted i have to cover it with a see through piece of plastic almost everyday...but I love uncovering it when guests come over and my dogs are in their cages... :)
